Frequently Asked Questions
What are Ayahuasca ceremonies, and how can they help me?
Great Spirit Farm cultivates its natural sacraments with care and reverence. Our primary sacrament, ayahuasca, is a tea comprised of two plants, whose effect is communion with the divine in all things. We believe that small, intimate groups are best. Our masterfully guided ceremonies create a safe space for inner reflection, emotional release, and connection with divine consciousness. Within our ceremony circle, members overcome challenges, receive guidance, understand deep mysteries, and enhance personal growth.
How does Ayahuasca support physical, emotional and spiritual healing?
Our sessions safely guide participants through profound inner journeys, connecting to omnipotent wisdom, often revealing blind spots and spiritual hindrances. Through ceremonies, private coaching, and supportive integration practices, individuals can release trauma, find inner peace, and strengthen their spiritual connection. Our members report powerful, positive shifts in awareness, relationships, career, and overall satisfaction in life.
What should I know before attending a psychedelic retreat?
Psychedelic ceremonies can be powerful, sometimes intense experiences, and deserve to be approached with reverence and preparedness. At Great Spirit Farm, we take great care to help you prepare mentally and physically. We offer expert guidance, private coaching, and a serene setting to support your transformational journey. Feel free to reach out to schedule an introductory call with our facilitators to see if a sacramental ceremony with us is for you.
What should I bring or prepare for a plant medicine retreat?
When you register to join us, our team will ensure you have all the information you need to prepare yourself for the best possible experience. Bring comfortable clothing, a journal, a water bottle, a towel, a mat, blankets, and personal essentials. Our 3-day services include lodging. Avoid alcohol, cannabis, and certain medications, as instructed by our facilitators. Our Preparation Guide will provide all you need to prepare emotionally and mentally, including setting intentions, practicing mindfulness, and learning to work with our sacraments.
What health conditions should I be aware of if I want to attend a sacramental ceremony?
At Great Spirit Farm, we have a variety of offerings for everyone, from family-friendly community days to transformational coaching to plant-sacrament ceremonies. Participation in our ceremonies is contingent on completing an application to ensure your safety and suitability. You may need your medical provider’s approval for certain conditions, such as high blood pressure, cardiac conditions, medication compatibility, and psychiatric conditions. It’s vitally important that applications are completed with full transparency and honesty. If you have health conditions that prevent you from participating, we invite you to consider spending time with us in other ways: our community days and coaching provide life-changing experiences, connection, and insights that make a real difference.
What is the experience and training of your facilitators?
Our master facilitators bring over 30 years of experience with psychedelics, over a decade of dedicated work with ayahuasca, and have held space in more than 1,000 ceremonies with entheogenic sacraments. They’ve trained across multiple lineages—including Shipibo, Mestizo, and União do Vegetal—and honor indigenous wisdom keepers with deep respect and ongoing reciprocity.
Their path includes years of dieta with master plants, learning directly from nature and cultivating relationships with these living allies. They bring that quiet wisdom into each ceremony—not as performance, but as service.
Equally important is their inner clarity. They are committed to doing their own deep work—so they can hold space cleanly, without bringing unconscious baggage into the ceremonial field. This means staying attuned, present, and energetically responsible—able to meet you where you are without projecting their own unresolved material. In a space where every thought ripples, this clarity is not optional—it’s essential.
Above all, they care. They care about you—your experience, your safety, your life.
They receive no personal compensation for their service. This is not a career. It is a calling—a sacred offering to the collective. When we serve you, we serve the All.
Do you offer preparation and integration support to your members?
Yes—each ceremony includes detailed preparation support: written guidance, a 90-minute video, and an optional pre-retreat call to help you feel grounded and ready. One post-ceremony integration call is included, and for many, this is just the beginning. Additional integration coaching is available to help you deepen your insights, navigate real-life shifts, and stay connected to the transformation you came here for.
What is the cost of a retreat with Great Spirit Farm?
As a faith-based spiritual community, our retreats are offered by suggested donation, not fixed fees. We use a sliding scale to make this life-changing work accessible to as many people as possible, while sustaining the land, facilities, and community that make it all possible.
Once you join our private member list, you’ll receive detailed information about upcoming retreats, suggested donation ranges, and how to give in a way that aligns with your heart and means.
Our suggested contributions are intentionally lower than most churches—not because our service is lesser, but because we are here to serve, not to profit. Your donation supports the infrastructure, sacraments, scholarships, and ongoing service to those called to this path. Additional contributions are always welcome through our fundraising efforts or tithing program.
We are not a commercial retreat center—we are a sacred space held in devotion, humility, and love.
What questions should I ask a prospective facilitator, shaman, or retreat center before I join their sacramental ceremonies?
Choosing who to sit with is one of the most important decisions you’ll make on this path. Every ceremony space is different, and not all are held with the same level of training, integrity, or care. These questions are designed to help you discern clearly—without judgment, but with wisdom.
What is your experience with these sacraments?
Ask for the number of ceremonies facilitated—not just years of experience. The medicine teaches through direct, repeated engagement. Additionally, you could ask if the facilitator has experience with the problem you seek to solve.Who trained you? What lineages or traditions have informed your practice?
Solid guidance often comes from elders, mentors, or culturally rooted lineages—not self-initiation. There are many self-appointed facilitators these days. And while there is room for traditions to evolve, be cautious of self-appointed leaders who lack accountability, humility, and vulnerability.Do you maintain any form of accountability or continued learning?
Look for facilitators who are students themselves—engaged in mentorship, community reflection, or ongoing spiritual work. Do they willingly and openly share what they are working through, or where they have failed in the past? Are they willing to be open, humble, and vulnerable, or do they charismatically present as having their life all together? What does their life truly look like? Would you want to be like them? What does preparation and integration look like?
The support offered before and after the ceremony is just as important as the ceremony itself. It varies with each community—from zero to little support, to all-inclusive, more expensive options. Look for thoughtful resources, guidance, and availability beyond the event itself. How do you maintain safety in the space—physically, emotionally, and energetically?
Facilitators should be trauma-informed and aware of how to navigate strong energies and emergencies.
Is there a clear protocol for emergencies, trauma support, or energy management?
They should know how to assess and respond to medical situations, breakdowns, panic, or spiritual disorientation with clarity and care.Do you work alone, or is there a trained team present?
A strong ceremony is never held by one person alone. There should be competent, attuned support. The size of the ceremony will dictate the appropriate number of assistants. Too many or untrained assistants in the space can cause chaotic energy and be distracting at best. What roles do assistants or co-facilitators play?
Assistants should be experienced, trained, and actively holding space—not just observing or participating casually. How do you do your own work?
Facilitators should be in a continual process of self-inquiry, healing, and spiritual growth, with accountability and visibility in their community. Are you actively engaged in your own healing or spiritual practice?
Their ability to hold clear space depends on how they tend to their own inner world. No one is perfect. Are they willing to share openly with you, or do they gloss over their weakness and emphasize their strengths? How do you stay clear before, during, and after the ceremony?
Look for presence without ego, distraction, or unprocessed personal energy in the space. Are you able to hold space without projecting your own energy or agenda?
The role of a facilitator is to calmly support your process—not to control, fix, or impress. What is your relationship with power and ego?
Humility, self-awareness, and openness to feedback are signs of maturity and trustworthiness.Do you allow for personal sovereignty, or create dependency?
True facilitators help you connect to your own source—not to them. They will see and communicate with you as an equal.Do you feel empowered or subtly diminished in their presence?
Pay attention to how your body responds—confusion, awe, or fear can be signs of energetic imbalance. How do you handle donations or payment?
Look for transparency, clarity, and respectful language around sacred exchange. Are scholarships or accessible options available?
A commitment to accessibility often reveals the heart behind the mission. What happens if someone can’t pay the full amount?
Flexible support can indicate whether service or profit is the primary focus. Can I speak with someone who has sat with you before?
Referrals or testimonials offer insight beyond curated messaging. What are your boundaries around touch and physical interaction in ceremony?
Physical contact should be clearly defined, consensual, and never assumed. Clarity prevents harm. How do you handle participants who are in emotional or psychological distress?
Their response should be grounded in compassion and skill—not avoidance or spiritual bypassing. How do you work with sexual energy or romantic dynamics in community?
Clear ethical boundaries around intimacy and power help prevent exploitation and confusion. What substances or practices are allowed or prohibited before or during the retreat? What are their personal habits and addictions?
They should clearly and confidently guide you on medications, cannabis, fasting, or other interactions that may affect safety. Look for facilitators who are honest about their own addictions (we all have them) and do not bring those into the space. Do you want a facilitator who has calmly mastered self-awareness and self-discipline during times of stress, or one who abuses food, sacred medicines, or other drugs during your retreat? What is your relationship with the land you hold ceremony on?
A respectful relationship with the land—whether through stewardship, ancestral acknowledgment, or indigenous reciprocity—speaks to the depth of the container. If the location is a temporary space, what activities generally take place there? How close are the neighbors? Do they know about the ceremonies? Is the location operating legally with local municipal support? How do you stay grounded between ceremonies?
Look for facilitators who tend to integration, rest, and personal humility—not constant performance or spiritual inflation. An appealing Instagram account isn’t always the best indicator of who someone is.Do you have a code of ethics or a community agreement?
A shared agreement or code reflects thoughtful leadership and collective responsibility. How do I feel in their presence—safe, grounded, and respected, or unsettled and unsure?
Your body is wise. If something feels off, honor that. The energy you sense matters more than the words they say.
