Lemongrass is a nervine and has been proven to be a tonic for the nervous system.  It is used in therapeutic baths, which assist in calming the nerves and alleviating the symptoms of anxiety and fatigue caused by stress.

It is also used to kill germs and as a mild astringent. Some people apply lemongrass directly to the skin for headache, stomachache, abdominal pain, and muscle pain. By inhalation, the essential oil of lemongrass is used as aromatherapy for muscle pain and to relieve congestion. Lemongrass helps in cleansing and flushing harmful toxic wastes out of the body, as a result of its diuretic properties. Lemongrass may be effective in treating various types of cancers without affecting the healthy normal cells of the body. Drinking a lemongrass infusion for 10 days decreases thrush symptoms in people with HIV/AIDS better than applying a solution of gentian violet to the affected area.

Lemongrass has been proven beneficial in treating type-2 diabetes. Studies  have shown that the citral present in it help maintain optimum levels of insulin and improve the tolerance of glucose in the body.

Lemongrass has been treasured as a skin tonic and makes an effective cleanser for oily or acne-prone skin, due to its astringent and antiseptic qualities. It helps in strengthening the skin tissues and toning up the pores while also sterilizing them. Care should be taken while using lemongrass products, as the undiluted application might lead to skin irritation in some cases.

Product Description

Some of our favorite uses of Lemongrass here at Great Spirit Farm are to pull up one bunch, cut up the top leaves and make a tea by boiling for 10 minutes. It’s great mixed with a little ginger and honey! The tea soothes the mind, opens airways and tastes delicious! Then we chop up the tender base of the plant and add it to a coconut milk & lemongrass stir fry or soups. Yum!

We grow our lemongrass organically here in Florida. The plants you’ll receive are a several finger size stalks, cut from the mother to order. They can grow to large clumps 3 feet wide by 3-5 feet tall, becoming very dense and beautiful. Your plant will arrive with roots carefully wrapped, and with the leaves trimmed to help it put down fresh roots of its own. Place in a sunny location and water well to establish. Once established, they are hardy herbs. Lemongrass is a sub-tropical plant and it can’t handle hard freezing temperatures. If you live anywhere colder than zone 9a, you’ll want to grow your lemongrass in a pot, and bring it indoors when it is freezing. Lemongrass will naturally propagate itself, growing small stalks of new plants off the side of existing stalks.
